Wildlife Preservation Canada is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working on conservation and captive breeding issues in Canada. It is headquartered in Guelph, Ontario. It was founded in 1985 by Gerald Durrell as a sister organization of the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust (now ''Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust''), and was initially known as the Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada. It was founded on the lines of its other sister organization Wildlife Trust in the United States. It also initially shared the dodo logo with the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust, before having the present logo. The Trust supports young environmentalists with the ''Canada's New Noah'' program. ==Activities== Wildlife Preservation Canada is actively involved in the protection of critically endangered species around the world, including: *Canada: burrowing owl, eastern loggerhead shrike, spiny softshell turtle, swift fox, Vancouver Island marmot *Dominican Republic: Ridgway's hawk *Brazil: woolly spider monkey (''muriqui'') *Mauritius: Mauritius parakeet (echo parakeet), Mauritius fody, Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon The conservation programs usually include in-situ infrastructure development, awareness campaigns and in-situ and ex-situ captive breeding programs.
